- Prepare the fabric, zipper and sewing threads.
Sediakan kain, zip dan benang yang bersesuaian dengan warna kain.
2. Finish the sides of the fabric using a serger.
Jahit tepi sisi kain.
3. Draw a straight line 1/2inch from the sides of the fabric.
Tandakan 1/2inci dari sisi kain.
4. Fold the fabric towards the wrong side, using the straight line in the previous step as a guide. Press the fold using an iron. Repeat this step for the other side of the fabric.
Lipat kain mengikut garisan yang ditanda tadi dan seterika kemas. Ulang langkah ini untuk sisi kain yang satu lagi.
5. Mark 1/4inch from the top of the zipper as shown in the picture below.
Tandakan 1/4inci dari bahagian atas zip seperti dalam gambar di bawah.
6. Cut off the excess zipper on the mark in the previous step. This step is done to make it easier for us to sew the zipper to the fabric, as well as giving it a neat, finished look.
Potong zip pada garisan yang ditanda tadi. Langkah ini adalah untuk memudahkan kita mencantumkan kain pada zip dan juga supaya jahitan nampak lebih kemas.
7. Open the zipper, and place it on the sides of the fabric.
Buka zip, dan letakkan zip pada sisi kain.
8. Then, pin your zipper in place.
Kemudian, pinkan zip pada sisi kain supaya ia tidak bergerak.
9. Use a portable zipper foot for this step. Start sewing from the top of the zipper down to the bottom.
Gunakan tapak zip portable untuk langkah ini. Mula jahit dari bahagian atas zip sehingga ke hujung zip.
10. Make sure to sew right beside the zipper teeth as shown in the picture below.
Pastikan jahitan betul-betul di sebelah gigi zip seperti dalam gambar di bawah.
11. Stop sewing about 1cm from the zipper head. Keep the needle down in the fabric, and raise the zipper foot. Close the zipper. This step is done to avoid stitching over the zipper head and breaking the needle. Lower the zipper foot and continue sewing.
Berhenti jahit lebih kurang 1cm dari kepala zip. Naikkan tapak zip dengan jarum masih dalam kain. Tarik kepala zip ke atas dan tutup zip. Langkah ini adalah untuk mengelakkan jarum dari patah sekiranya terkena kepala zip. Turunkan semula tapak dan teruskan jahitan.
12. Well done! You have sewn your own zipper.

Notes/ Nota:
• Match the thread’s color to the project’s fabric.
Padankan warna benang dengan warna kain anda.
• Make sure not to stitch over the zipper head or the zipper teeth to avoid the needle from breaking.
